Cat Ba Island – The hidden pearl of sea

(All Vietnam) – If you plan to visit Ha Long Bay, it is a good idea to kick off the trip by travelling around Cat Ba Island.

Cat Ba is the largest island in the Bay with 366 islands spanning 260 km2. Having been a well-known destination for both Vietnamese and foreigners all over the world for a long time, because of its isolation, Cat Ba still preserves an incredibly wide beauty with Lan Hanh bay and many other attractions.

Most of Cat Ba Island is protected and declared as Cat Ba National Park as a way to maintain the island’s diverse ecosystems. Many types of natural habitats are found on Cat Ba Archipelago, creating a masterpiece of the nature. Some of them are limestone karsts, tropical limestone forests, coral reefs, mangrove and sea grass beds, lagoons, beaches, caves, and willow swamp forests.  It is also famous as the home of golden-headed langur, one of the rarest primates in the world, and possibly the rarest primate in Asia. In 2004, Cat Ba Archipelago was declared a UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve Area and is divided into three different areas with distinct function and regulation to develop the biodiversity and conserve marine and terrestrial ecosystem.
